Diana K. Lunkwitz completed her doctoral studies at the Institute for Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Here and at the University of Hamburg, she taught on issues of interreligious relations, the study of esotericism, religions in Africa, and Religion and Ecology, especially Islam in the ecosystem. In addition, her research interests include Orientalism, discourse analysis, decolonial theories, postcolonial and queer studies, as well as the history of Christian mission in the 19th and 20th centuries. She has written several journal articles and book chapters in German and English. Her diploma thesis entitled ‘Mission from the Margins: Marginalisierung als Thema der Missionserklärung des ÖRK von 2012’ was awarded the Werner Krusche University Prize. She has studied Protestant theology with a focus on religious studies in Germany (Leipzig, Rostock, Mainz, Berlin) and Italy (Rome). This book is her doctoral thesis. It combines several of the aforementioned interests in the time of imperialism and important first encounters of religious representatives.
