“Dear friends of the worldwide radar family,
It is my great pleasure to invite you this time in Czech Republic, in the beautiful city of Prague. On behalf of the Programme Committee I am very pleased to welcome everybody cordially to the International Radar Symposium IRS 2017.
The city of Prague is located at the river Vltava and it is the historical capital of Bohemia kingdom. The city was founded in the 9th century and its name is of Slavic origin. It has been developed during the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras. It was an important city of the Habsburg Monarchy and its Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city of Prague played major roles in the Bohemian and Protestant Reformation. Prague has regained importance as one of the cultural, educational, political and economic centres of Czech Republic and Europe.
With the International Radar Symposium 2017, the German Institute of Navigation (DGON) in co-operation with University of Defence in Brno and ERA a.s. company continues to organise the series of successful international radar symposia which started in 1998 in Munich followed by GRS 2000 in Berlin, GRS 2002 in Bonn, just 14 years ago the IRS 2003 in Dresden, IRS 2004 in Warsaw was the first radar conference in Poland, IRS 2005 in Berlin again, IRS 2006 in Krakow, IRS 2007 in Cologne, IRS 2008 in Wroclaw, IRS 2009 in Hamburg, very successful IRS 2010 in Vilnius (capital city of Lithuania), IRS 2011 in Leipzig, IRS 2012 in Warsaw, IRS 2013 in Dresden, IRS 2014 in Gdansk, IRS 2015 again in Dresden and finally the IRS 2016 in Krakow.
This series of successfully organised international conferences shows already the results of a very fruitful co-operation with our European partners, colleagues, and radar experts. Radar technique is still an expanding technical and economical segment with practical applications in the civilian as well as the military area. Due to the rapid development of analog and digital technologies there is a continuous progress in the system performance. The world-wide family of radar researchers and experts is quite small and it is always a pleasure to meet scientists, engineers and international experts to discuss new ideas, latest research results, future developments and new applications.
In response to our call for papers, we received in total papers from 34 different countries. The programme committee selected 190 submitted papers for both oral and poster presentations to develop a very professional and interesting Symposium programme. This fantastic response shows the worldwide large interest in radar techniques and radar systems for many different applications. Thus, it is the general objective of this international radar conference, to meet radar scientists and radar engineers for fruitful discussions and exchange of information. High-level presentations will allow each participant to get an in-depth view on the current status of radar systems and components in all fields and aspects of several applications as well as on future research programmes and developments. Finally, I wish you all a very interesting and successful radar symposium and an enjoyable time here in the beautiful city of Prague."
