Beschreibung

Nanoparticle processing places a challenging task to the emerging field of nanotechnology for industrial scale applications. Especially pyrogenic synthesis, which is currently the state-of-the-art technology for inorganic nanoparticles, requires a re-dispersion and desagglomeration of nanoparticles in aqueous or non-aqueous solutions for many applications, i.e. coatings, polymer composites or cosmetics. Hydrodynamic stresses are exerted on particle bonds in high pressure dispersion processes and break nanoagglomerates. The agglomerate size decrease as well as structural changes are studied with cutting-edge methods as photon correlation spectroscopy and small angle x-ray scattering. Agglomerate breakage is related to hydrodynamic stresses, which are assessed locally using computational fluid dynamics. Thus a new insight is given into dispersion processes on the nanoscale.
