Dear friends of the worldwide radar family,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you again in Germany in the beautiful city of Dresden. On behalf of the Programme Committee of this radar conference I am very pleased to welcome everybody cordially to the International Radar Symposium IRS 2015. The city of Dresden is located at the river Elbe and has a long colourful history. Although Dresden is a relatively recent city of Slavic origin, it is well-known as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. After the reunification in 1989 Dresden has regained importance as one of the cultural, educational, political and economic centres of Germany and Europe.
With the International Radar Symposium 2015, the German Institute of Navigation (DGON) in co-operation with the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) continues to organise the series of successful international radar symposia which started in 1998 in Munich (IRS 98) followed by GRS 2000 in Berlin, GRS 2002 in Bonn, just 12 years ago the IRS 2003 in Dresden, IRS 2004 in Warsaw was the first radar conference in Poland, IRS 2005 in Berlin again, the IRS 2006 event in Krakow, the outstanding IRS 2007 in Cologne, the IRS 2008 in Wroclaw (Breslau), the IRS 2009 in Hamburg, the very successful IRS 2010 in Vilnius (capital city of Lithuania), the IRS 2011 in Leipzig, the IRS 2012 in Warsaw, the IRS 2013 in Dresden and finally the IRS 2014 in Gdansk.
This series of successfully organised international conferences shows already the results of a very fruitful co-operation with our Polish partners, friends and radar experts. Radar technique is still an expanding technical and economical segment with practical applications in the civilian as well as the military area. Due to the rapid development of analog and digital technologies there is a continuous progress in the system performance. The world-wide family of radar researchers and experts is quite small and it is always a pleasure to meet scientists, engineers and international experts to discuss new ideas, latest research results, future developments and new applications.
In response to our call for papers, we received in total more than 250 papers from 33 different countries. The programme committee selected 196 submitted papers (176 for oral and 20 for poster presentations) for a very professional and most interesting technical programme. This fantastic response shows the world-wide large interest in radar techniques and radar systems for many different applications. Thus, it is the general objective of this international radar conference, to meet radar scientists and radar engineers for fruitful discussions and exchange of information.
High-level presentations will allow each participant to get an in-depth view on the current status of radar systems and components in all fields and aspects of several applications as well as on future research programmes and developments.
Finally, I wish you all a very interesting and successful radar symposium and an enjoyable time here in the beautiful city of Dresden.
