Call for Proposals: 5th Open Science Festival 2027 – Strategies for Open Science
The 5th Open Science Festival will take place at the University of Bamberg from 18 to 19 March 2027. Under the overarching theme ‘Meet. Share. Inspire. Care.”, the conference brings together stakeholders from research, information infrastructure and science policy to evaluate the current state and future direction of open science practices.
Given the growing importance of open science for scientific integrity and the societal impact of research, the festival provides a forum for professional exchange across disciplinary boundaries.

Key themes of this year’s conference
The Programme Committee invites submissions that engage critically and constructively with the following key themes:

  • Shaping knowledge together – Open Science in a changing world: An analysis of the influence of artificial intelligence on knowledge-generation processes and a reflection on research integrity in a volatile global environment.
  • From knowledge to action – Open Science in research and teaching: Documentation and evaluation of practical experiences. What evidence emerges for the successful implementation of an open science culture in everyday research?
  • Infrastructures, services and standards: The role of libraries and digital research platforms as the backbone of scientific communication – from the standardisation of metadata to transparent peer review processes (Open Peer Review).

4. Open Science Festival Wien 2025

Submission of Contributions and Formats
Various formats are available for participation in the main programme, all of which facilitate in-depth discussion:

  • Lightning Talks: Short presentations introducing current projects or theoretical ideas.
  • Workshops: Interactive 90-minute sessions focused on jointly developing solutions or imparting methodological skills.
  • Posters and project showcases: Presentation of empirical research findings or non-commercial software applications on the tool marketplace.
  • ‘Share & Connect’ mentoring: A structured programme for professional networking over a period of one year.

Important deadlines
Papers must be submitted via the ConfTool platform, stating the authors’ names and institutional affiliations. An abstract of approximately 300 words is required.

  • Deadline for lightning talks and workshops: 15 October 2026
  • Deadline for posters and the tool marketplace/showcases: 15 December 2026

Further information on the terms and conditions of participation, registration (from November 2026) and the guidelines for open-access publication of conference papers can be found on the official event website. Active participation makes a significant contribution to the evidence-based development of the international open science landscape.
