In plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), the advantages of two technologies (electrical drive and combustion engine) are combined: This means that both, local emission-free driving and a long range drives are guaranteed. Short distance use in everyday life enables long-term electrical drive. However, this means long fuel storage time in the tank, leading to physical and chemical fuel degradation. Consequently, the development of a fuel quality sensor is important for PHEV and introduced in this book.
