Audi publishes dissertations in cooperation with Cuvillier Verlag

Ingolstadt—An Audi book series debuted in January 2008. While PhD students of Audi AG have been publishing their theses on their own so far, from now on Ingolstadt’s automobile corporation will handle publication. This equates to a consistent and aestheticall-pleasing presentation of the dissertations.

A separate Audi dissertation series

At the moment over 100 PhD students are working at Audi AG, with 20 to 30 dissertations being published each year. Alfred Quenzler, leader of personnel marketing at Audi AG, emphasizes: “The publication series makes clear that Audi places especial value upon actively supporting scientific research”.

The first publication to come out of this cooperation of Ingolstadt’s automobile corporation and Cuvillier Verlag was prepared by Anil Taner, a PhD student with Audi Electronics Venture GmbH, and compares different systems intended to improve vision nighttime driving.

Göttinger Publishing House is a Premium Partner

Audi AG was able to recruit a premium partner in Cuvillier Verlag that has specialised in academic publications for 18 years. By showing continuous commitment and targeting specific marketing concepts the Göttingen publisher has succeeded in gaining national and improving international reputation and a worldwide degree of distribution.

Diverse options within the Audi PhD programme

The Audi students’ PhD theses are available from the publishing house via print on demand: As needed, additional editions can be printed in small copy numbers and the publication is therefore available to bookstores and interested readers at all times. Ordering as printed copy or PDF is possible on the publisher’s website. Since 2004 the online service has been continually expanded.

The increasing experience is used to develop new services for the scientific community. PhD student Taner describes the advantages of the dissertation series: “The publication gains additional value by carrying the Audi brand”. According to Taner, additional benefits come in the form of Audi covering the costs of publication while maintaining freedom in design and formatting the dissertation. The Ingolstadt automobile corporation offers two distinct PhD programmes, each of which lasting three years:

  • PhD studies directly with Audi AG
The PhD students work on scientific projects in all areas of operations and are operatively integrated into the specific branch. Supervision by a mentor within the corporation is guaranteed for the duration of study.
  • PhD studies in one of the Audi competence centers
For this option Audi cooperates with universities that operate branches at the respective sites of the corporation. Contract and supervision is provided by the university or university of applied sciences. The combination of theory and practice is ensured by working on Audi projects.
