The complex digital signal processing of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme can be implemented efficiently in modern Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). In this approach, the processing steps are mapped onto a programmable circuit structure. This work presents the design of these specific structures, the optimization options and the performance parameters of all required OFDM processing steps. An experimental system demonstrates the performance of the FPGA implementation and offers flexible control of the system parameters as well as extensive monitoring capabilities.
