This Festschrift was produced to mark the retirement of Professor Dr. Bernhard Schäfers (born 1939), who as institute director led and shaped sociology in Karlsruhe for almost a quarter of a century. Contributions from vocational pedagogy (Walter Jungmann), history (Rolf-Ulrich Kunze), sociology (Yvonne Bernart, Roger Häußling, Oliver Langewitz, Bianca Lehmann and Martin Lenz) and the history of technology (Rolf-Jürgen Gleitsmann) are complemented by insights into everyday life in the secretary’s office (Liane Großmann, Ilse Willin).
