Turbulence–Chemistry Interaction in Premixed Combustion
The present work presents detailed experimental data on the structures of turbulent premixed and partially stratified model flames. The fundamentals and the experimental implementation of the diagnostic methods employed—laser Doppler anemometry (LDA), particle image velocimetry (PIV) and combined Raman/Rayleigh scattering—are presented and sources of error are analysed. The measurements provide instantaneous velocities as well as temperatures and mole fractions of the major species. The meaningful statistics of these measured quantities, of their gradients and correlations, are suitable for the validation of numerical flow and combustion simulations and offer insight into the turbulence–chemistry interaction in the context of premixed combustion.
