As a result of demographic change, automobile manufacturers face the fundamental question of whether the design of a motor vehicle must increasingly address the needs of older drivers!?
To clarify this and further questions, empirical studies with test subjects were conducted within the framework of this work with the aim of identifying and examining more closely possible differences between various age groups.
As a result, various vehicle elements with considerable potential for improvement were identified and assigned to the following clusters: ingress/egress, position/reachability, force required, visibility, shape and seating comfort. In addition, it was possible to establish vehicle- and age-group-specific geometry specifications in order to make the findings obtained usable in future vehicle development as well.
