The work describes the application, calculation and dimensioning of Modular Multilevel Converters in high-voltage direct current transmission. The focus lies on a largely analytical description of Modular Multilevel Converters in a 6-pulse bridge configuration. In this context, the decoupling of the converter-side quantities and the expected system perturbations are described on the basis of a transformation developed and suited for this purpose. In addition, the switching and conduction losses as well as the calculation of thermal models in the frequency domain are examined.
