The Lower Saxony state government’s objective is to convert energy supply to almost 100 % renewable energies (RE) by 2050 in the course of the energy transition [MU 2016a]. Since this will entail the conversion of all sectors – such as transport, heat supply or industry – to electricity as an energy carrier, the transmission grids for electrical energy will play an important role in the future energy system.
