Die Autoritäre Persönlichkeit (English shop)

Eine Integration traditioneller moderner Sichtweisen

Thomas Petzel (Author)

For over 50 years, the “authoritarian personality” has been regarded as one of the most important predictors of xenophobia, racism and an affinity for fascism. After a period of diminished interest, research on authoritarianism has undergone a renaissance in recent years. This study introduces the history of the construct and highlights the current relevance of authoritarianism research. In three original studies, it analyses the significance of authoritarianism for explaining xenophobic attitudes, the relationship between authoritarianism and teachers’ behavioural tendencies in problematic classroom situations, as well as the dependence of authoritarianism on a perceived threat to the “in-group”. In conclusion, a model is developed and presented that integrates traditional and modern perspectives on authoritarianism.
