I asked myself this question too, as a young student of the natural sciences. This consideration also came up frequently during my further training in the social sciences. When I then set out, against a university background, to examine the relationship between homeopathy and Christian pastoral care, the lectures by Dr. Ohntrup were very helpful to me. With his professionally grounded knowledge of homeopathy, its roots and its mode of action, he opened a door for me to a deeper understanding, and the connection with his life of faith, rooted in a profound Christian background, was very beneficial in this.
The lectures compiled by his wife trace Dr. Ohntrup’s biography, showing how he, as a conventionally trained physician, came to homeopathy and engaged with it intensively. In doing so, both homeopathy in Hahnemann’s time and the differing perspectives in relation to traditional medicine are examined. Particularly important, however, are the final two chapters, which address the accusation of occultism against the background of faith and conclude by offering a glimpse into practice.
