This work is devoted to determining the dynamic transfer behaviour of rolling bearings.

First, the development of a novel test rig for determining the dynamic transfer behaviour of rolling bearings is presented. In designing the test rig, particular emphasis was placed on being able to investigate a wide range of rolling bearings under the most diverse operating conditions across broad parameter ranges. A further consideration was the easy interchangeability of the bearings, in order to keep the conversion effort for investigating different bearings low.

The focus of the work is a measurement strategy for determining the dynamic transfer behaviour of rolling bearings. Starting from four-pole theory, which is used, for example, to determine the frequency-dependent structure-borne sound transfer behaviour of simple components such as springs or masses in a uniaxial direction, a method with an associated sensor arrangement is developed that makes it possible to determine the four-pole parameters of rolling bearings under operating conditions on the test rig. The demodulation of the signals in the system of rotating sensors is discussed in detail, and simulations are used to investigate how, for example, speed fluctuations during a measurement affect the accuracy of the results. It is shown that the speed fluctuations actually occurring lead to negligibly small deviations.

Since the test rig is a new development, the statistical verification of the repeatability of the measurement results is discussed in detail.

Because stiffnesses and damping values are far more widely used for determining the transfer properties of mechanical systems, a method for calculating stiffnesses and damping values from four-pole parameters is presented.

The measurement strategy presented thus allows the frequency-dependent structure-borne sound transfer behaviour of rolling bearings to be specified as a function of the rolling bearings investigated and of the operating parameters, so that these can be used, for example, to improve the simulation of noise generation in gearboxes.

Finally, the influence of selected operating parameters on the stiffness and damping of the rolling bearings is presented.
