Product development in the automotive industry is characterised by an increasing volume of information alongside a simultaneous shortening of development times. This creates the need for closer networking of communication partners and results in increasing dynamics in information flows. The growth in networking and dynamics within the system “information process” leads to an increase in system complexity. The consequences of this rising complexity are increasing error rates and wasted resources, accompanied by higher development costs. In order to master this problem, the present work derives and evaluates a concept for the continuous recording, assessment and control of information complexity. This concept makes it possible to create transparent, flexible and seamless information processes in product development.
