The term “mycotoxins” encompasses the toxic secondary metabolites of microfungi, which have been the focus of science and legislators since the 1960s. The aim of the work presented here was to further develop existing analytical principles, exemplified by the mycotoxins patulin and the aflatoxins.
In each case, the analysis of these mycotoxins was transferred to the online SPE-LC technique in the routine operation of a laboratory. For aflatoxins, the repeated use of commercially available immunoaffinity material is also described for the first time. This allows the analysis of aflatoxins to be carried out considerably more cheaply and rapidly, with a high degree of reliability. Through the use of the online SPE-LC technique for patulin, the effort required for sample preparation was drastically reduced, so that a more efficient method could be developed. Both procedures are validated and accredited, and their performance has furthermore been demonstrated in interlaboratory comparison studies.
