Can certain pattern analysis procedures be applied to movement data in order to gain a more precise understanding of human action regulation? And can interventions supporting motor learning in sport and rehabilitation be designed more efficiently on this basis, when visual movement information is acoustically complemented by movement sonification? In July 2005, scientists from sport science, computer science, cognitive psychology and neuroscience came together at the German Sport University Cologne for an interdisciplinary research symposium addressing these questions. The present book compiles the contributions to this event. The pattern analysis procedures presented are applicable not only to sports and everyday movements; in addition, approaches to sports game analysis and to inverse dynamics are introduced. Current findings on the functioning of perceptual functions relevant to movement control (biological motion) as well as on the development of everyday motor skills and on motor learning round off the thematic spectrum.
