Many technical applications achieve the required functionalities of the workpiece only within narrow tolerances.
Face grinding meets the high requirements of technical components. For machining both sides, transverse-face double-disc grinding machines were developed for cost-effective series production. The focus here is on grinding according to the “Wendt principle” as well as on transverse-face double-disc grinding with planetary kinematics.
Unlike in scientific investigations, long-term process variables become analysable in industrial large-scale series production. The analysis pursues various approaches in order to determine the limit states of the processes, to represent their performance capability and process reliability and, where possible, to increase these through process control strategies. Identifying the disturbance complexes that impede the attainment of high form accuracies is essential for mastering the processes.
The investigations were carried out on workpieces made of aluminium oxide using diamond grinding wheels. The ceramic sealing disc for the sanitary industry was used as the large-series component.
The present book makes a fundamental contribution to determining key figures of the actual state for industrial large-scale series production with regard to performance and quality levels.
