This research has produced compounds exhibiting a wide range of structural motifs. It has been demonstrated in compounds 2 to 5 that it is possible to used the Hpap and HCI-pap ligands to create Mn(II)4 and Fe(II)3Fe(III) aggregates with cores similar to the {Fe(III)4O6} single molecular magnets reported by Saalfrank and Gatteschi.
