The author, Hubertus Zummach, discovered writing for himself in his retirement after 40 years in the Lower Saxony school service and supplementary political studies, among others with the political scientist and freelance writer Christian Graf von Krockow. In 2010, Göttingen’s Cuvillier Verlag also published his critical report on the educational crisis in Germany.

In the iridescent effect that a political icon such as Freiherr zu Guttenberg has on German citizens, the author sees, among other things, a projection screen for many voters’ frustration with the existing political system and the general desire of Germans for a change in the political status quo.

One of his theses is: the Berlin Republic has moved closer again to the conditions of the Weimar Republic, and not only geographically. Indications: the current representative democracy has been deformed into an oligarchy of parties by a caste of professional politicians (currently 56% of all mandate holders!). As a result, clientelist politics has become almost the rule, through party cronyism and corruption across all parliamentary groups. In times of planetary networking and global communication, German citizens are still largely excluded from the political decision-making process in their own country.

As in Weimar, a neutralism towards values and a continual decay of values and norms could also lead to the end of the Berlin Republic. In order not to leave the determination of values to left-wing or right-wing extremists, as was the case in Weimar, and in order to finally give value-conservative voters a political home again, the author recommends the establishment of a new party oriented towards values and norms.
