This study addresses the processing of shape memory polymers and their functional fatigue. The polyether urethane Tecoflex® (TFX) is investigated. In addition, NiTi/TFX composites were produced using different surface treatments. TFX exhibits thermoplastic properties below Ttrans and elastomeric properties above it, with Ttrans being 63°C. Functional fatigue was investigated over 50 cycles. The recoverability of TFX decreases as the number of cycles increases. Tests just above Ttrans show the best results at low strains. Recoverability decreases most strongly during the first cycles, after which a limiting value is approached. For the production of the NiTi/TFX composites, untreated, ground and electropolished NiTi was combined with two different silane solutions. At RT, a composite of electropolished NiTi with a 1% BIS solution and, at 80°C, ground NiTi with a 1% AMEO solution show the best bond strength.
