This book aimed to compare noun formation in German and in the Yorùbá language contrastively. The comparison focuses on the four main levels of word formation: composition, derivation, conversion and reduplication.
In order to achieve this aim, the word formation construction (WBK) of the two languages was used in the research corpus. The case examples are taken from existing relevant literature on both languages. Corresponding questionnaires were distributed to native speakers of the two languages in order to carry out the study. The criteria of comparison that were used consist in the determination of a tertium comparationis.
The word formation of the noun in German and in Yorùbá was discussed under the headings “derivation”, “conversion” and “reduplication” in the fourth, fifth and sixth chapters respectively. In the seventh chapter, the semantic analysis of the noun in both languages was carried out in order to address the relationship between language and culture. Subsequently, an overall assessment was made and the points of contact between the two languages were discussed in detail.
