Multi-junction solar cells based on III-V semiconductor compounds offer the possibility of converting solar energy into electrical energy with particularly high efficiency. In this work, efficiencies of up to 41.1% are demonstrated. For terrestrial use, such high-performance solar cells are integrated into light-concentrating systems, which places special demands on the solar cell. The focus of this dissertation is on the crystal growth of various III-V solar cell structures, as well as their adaptation to the terrestrial solar spectrum and to the high light intensities in concentrator systems. In addition to lattice-matched solar cell structures, solar cells with strain-compensated multi-quantum wells and metamorphic triple-junction solar cells are investigated. Particular attention is paid to the development of tunnel diodes as interconnects between the subcells of multi-junction solar cells under highly concentrated light.
