The number of driver assistance functions in vehicles is steadily increasing. Active steering systems are increasingly being used as actuators for angle and torque superposition.

To manage this complexity, this thesis presents the concept of a steering system coordinator. Two focal points are set in the analysis. In addition to the development of an energetic networking approach to ensure electrical system stability and to prevent steering overrun, reference-model-based feedforward disturbance compensation is introduced as a control concept. Steering interventions are possible without disturbing feedback to the driver.

The functional modules of the coordinator and three assistance functions are developed theoretically, and their effectiveness is demonstrated on the basis of a prototype implementation.

The thesis presents a holistic concept ranging from the requirements to the system response in the vehicle.
