Shaping the Co-World instead of the Environment!?

May humans decide over the life and death of other living beings? A human-dominated environment resulting from the environmental impact assessments currently required brings about the restriction not only of human individuality. Examples of the reorientation of commercial enterprises or of citizen-driven regional development show that a freer shaping of the co-world (Mitwelt) is possible. Primary perceptibility, measurability, benefit and the methodological limits of an assessment of scenic landscape quality within a citizen-centred planning process are revealed through pictorial examples.
Indications of how aesthetic, ecological and economic objectives can be linked in the use of solar energy, including the opportunities this offers for plants and animals, reinforce this. Using the example of the “apparent forest dieback”, however, attention is also drawn to the risks of secondary perceptibility. Proposals for the further development of mining law towards a holistic consideration of its effects on the co-world provide further stimuli.
