Validation is the recalculation of a measurement campaign. In this context, the term validation refers to measurement data validation. In measurement data validation, a consistent set of values is calculated from an inconsistent set of measured values. Mathematically, measurement data validation is a least-squares adjustment calculation. Cycle simulation programs are used for this calculation and serve as a tool in the validation. Validation is applied in the evaluation of measurement data (monitoring) and in acceptance tests in power and process engineering plants. Measurement data validation offers the advantage that its result satisfies the balance equations consistently. Measurement data validation thus allows plant conditions to be captured more accurately and power plant systems to be operated closer to their optimum point. In addition, the method of measurement data validation is employed in acceptance tests.
