Sustainable “Economy – Spring 2015” outlines the supply of electricity, heat, fuels, plastics and base chemicals based on renewable resources. All arguments are linked to sources for further information.

The electricity market doubles in the process, as it supplements the fuel market and the heat market; around 300 GW of wind energy are installed in Germany. Corresponding areas are available, and an EEG (Renewable Energy Sources Act) remains in force. Houses are heated by solar thermal energy and with heat pumps and wind power and contain a large heat storage unit. In the automotive market there are electric cars with range extenders, and trucks run on hydrogen fuel cells. Straw and wood are separated into xyluloses (further processed into ethanol), pulp (further processed into paper or into glucose and sugar chemistry, PLA) and lignin (reactive distillation into charcoal and an aromatics mixture as fuel). Biogas is produced only from waste. Among plastics, PLA is currently only slightly more expensive than PE, PP, PS and will reach the packaging sector at the latest when oil prices rise. CaO, cement, copper and aluminium can be produced using wind power, and iron using lignin coke or electrolytically.
