The investigations carried out in this work are intended to demonstrate that complex macromolecules such as oligonucleotides and peptides are determined in their structure and function by smaller subunits (nucleosides, amino acids). Through targeted synthetic design of these building blocks, larger superordinate structures can be modified, functionalised and controlled. By exploiting solid-phase synthesis and adapting the synthesis conditions, the potential of these small building blocks is greater today than ever before.
