Climate change, particulate matter and noise pollution in city centres worldwide: these are just three reasons why more and more drivers are showing a strong interest in alternative drive technologies and why car manufacturers are working intensively on new concepts. Petroleum reserves are declining; the availability of fossil fuels will be largely exhausted by the year 2080 following a production peak forecast for around 2020. In addition, crude oil prices are rising steadily. On top of this come global restrictions in a wide variety of forms: CO2 limits, safety regulations, city restrictions – to name but a few. New types of passenger car drive systems must therefore be found which, on the one hand, meet ecological requirements and, on the other, nevertheless remain affordable for consumers. For this reason, students at the Hochschule Niederrhein set themselves the task of surveying female and male drivers about their experiences, concerns, wishes and suggestions for improvement regarding the use of alternative drive technologies.
