This summary reports initial findings from a survey investigating attitudes, expectations and stereotypes concerning role patterns as well as attitudes towards and perceptions of gender equality (here with a focus on women and men), also with regard to cultural contexts and in connection with students’ self-image. The first results of the survey provide an initial impression of how students perceive equality, educational opportunities, role patterns and cultural aspects in academia, whether they have already encountered these topics during their studies, and whether traditional conceptions of roles and social gender stereotypes are still present. Building on the current findings, it would be interesting to continue the survey in future studies with culturally more diverse and larger samples of students in different languages and countries.
