The aim of the “2nd Frankfurt Career Study – Career Prospects of Working Mothers” is to analyse the current situation of working mothers in Germany as well as possible changes compared with the 1st Frankfurt Career Study – Career Prospects of Working Mothers of 2015. The following research questions are to be answered:
• How well can mothers reconcile work and family in their current position?
• What hinders and what supports the professional development of working mothers?
• What experiences and wishes do working mothers have, and can companies and policymakers fulfil the latter?
• How do (marital) partners divide family work and paid employment between them?
• Which factors influence the duration of parental leave and the return to work?
The results are analysed with the aim of identifying reform approaches/incentive systems for companies and institutions in order to sustainably improve the situation for working mothers in Germany. The obstacles to be identified in reconciling family and work should lead to solutions, so that the insufficient use of the resources of professionally qualified mothers soon becomes a thing of the past on the German labour market, so that the resource represented by working mothers is recognised and they are in future retained within companies and better utilised.
