The aim of this work was to record the frequency and type of use of all functions of the driver’s workplace in everyday life. The study methodology developed, the conduct of the experiment and the evaluation of the experiment are described. The basis of the experiment was the construction of two test vehicles capable of automatically recording driver interactions. 72 test subjects familiar with the vehicle type exchanged their own vehicle for a test vehicle for one week. The evaluation of the interactions provided a comprehensive overview of overall operating behaviour in natural situations.

On average, two operating actions are performed every minute. Secondary and tertiary driving tasks are represented in equal proportions. The results show a high degree of inter- and intra-individuality among the test subjects.
