This dissertation falls within the field of localized 1H NMR spectroscopy. It focuses on the development and optimization of new methods for rapid spectroscopic 1H NMR imaging as well as on the further development of already existing methods based on the principle of Steady State Free Precession (SSFP). Particular attention is paid to the in vivo application of these methods in humans. The advantages and disadvantages of the individual techniques compared with the established methods become apparent in the course of the work.

Following the introduction of the physical principles of magnetic resonance in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 presents the principles of localized NMR spectroscopy that are fundamental for the further understanding. Chapter 3 deals in detail with the general mechanisms of Steady State Free Precession and subsequently describes the rapid imaging techniques based on it that are known from NMR tomography. Chapter 4 summarizes the already existing methods for rapid SSFP-based spectroscopic 1H NMR imaging, along with some simulations and their general properties, which formed the starting point for the author’s own developments. The self-developed and further developed SSFP-based methods for rapid spectroscopic 1H NMR imaging, as well as their optimization and investigation, are treated in detail in Chapter 5, whereupon Chapter 6 concludes the work with a summary.
