Materials with perovskite and mullite structures are of increasing importance for many novel applications, e.g. as cathode materials in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), sensors, or as gas separation membranes for the production of synthesis gas or for the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons.
In the present work, numerous materials of these structure types were investigated. The main focus was on the reactivity and stability of the individual materials at high temperatures and widely differing oxygen partial pressures. By means of Mössbauer spectroscopy, these materials could be studied in situ and an assessment could be made regarding their use under the respectively desired operating conditions. Furthermore, phase diagrams as a function of temperature and oxygen partial pressure could be established for selected compounds.
