Those who study criminal law and criminal procedure law often concentrate on “cramming” criminal offences and procedural authorising provisions along with the corresponding definitions. To understand the system of criminal law/criminal procedure law, however, this is not sufficient. The necessary basic knowledge also includes which consequences may stand at the end of criminal proceedings and how criminal proceedings unfold. This is where this book comes in, explaining step by step these foundations of the law of criminal sanctions. This knowledge promotes the recognition of interrelations within criminal law/criminal procedure law as well as the understanding and retention of the required material on criminal offences and procedural authorising provisions.

The present book is aimed at students of law, trainee lawyers (Rechtsreferendare) and police commissioner candidates. It is designed as a study book, written in an easily comprehensible manner, requires no prior knowledge and contains many overviews and revision questions in preparation for written and oral examinations.

The author, formerly an attorney with a focus on criminal law, is a full-time lecturer in the Police Department of the Fachhochschule für öffentliche Verwaltung Rheinland-Pfalz. He also regularly holds continuing education courses at the Landespolizeischule Rheinland-Pfalz.
