In this graduate thesis signal processing algorithms for radar sensors are presented, which focus on the use in automotive comfort- and safety systems for city traffic. It is shown how to distinguish between the two object classes pedestrians and cars within only one measurement cycle of a 24GHz radar sensor. Furthermore algorithms for traffic situation analysis are presented that include the ego vehicle motion as well as the trajectory of objects inside the sensors field of view. A parameter for the risk of a collision in a traffic scenario with multiple targets is proposed.
