The development of the school concept for the IGS Göttingen-Geismar anticipated – both in its substantive, pedagogical, didactic and methodological orientation and with regard to the problem of the school system – a development in education and school policy that did not begin in Germany until the turn of the millennium, that is, three decades later. The school concept drafted from 1970 onwards was visionary, yet by no means illusory. It exemplarily prefigured a course of school development that, forty years later, was honoured with the Deutscher Schulpreis.
