With regard to the genesis and revision of his artistic works, Bertolt Brecht’s (1898–1956) years of exile in America are considered a significant phase in the artist’s œuvre. The American exile period was shaped in particular by a further development and conceptual refinement of epic theatre. The study situates Brecht’s American exile in the context of the acculturation process, examining the American influences in the artist’s work and the cultural transfer associated with exile to post-war theatre production.
