In the automotive industry, expanding the product portfolio and closing existing segment gaps currently play a particularly important role. This approach represents, in particular, a response to new challenges such as new environmental legislation, but also to demographic change. A further trend is the enhancement of customer functionality through the increased use of chassis control systems, in order to mitigate the long-standing conflict of objectives between driving dynamics and ride comfort. The networking of chassis control systems and the introduction of further functionalities to achieve the desired customer benefit are key topics in this field.
The present work takes up the approach of numerical simulation methods for the development of chassis control systems for vehicle architectures. To this end, the established development process of the V-model has been analysed with a focus on conventional vehicles without active control systems. In accordance with the particular characteristics of chassis control systems and the function-oriented development approach, the existing development methodology has been extended holistically. The new development process thus enables a targeted design of chassis control systems, from vehicle requirements through function selection to system and component requirements.
