Alina Borscheid’s bachelor’s thesis “The State of the Art – Die Positive Psychologie im australischen Schulwesen” presents an analysis of the state of research on Positive Psychology, proceeding from a global perspective towards a narrowed focus on Australia. Following the thematic introduction, three Australian educational programmes are presented whose aim is to put the empirical findings of Positive Psychology into practice and to integrate them into everyday school life.
The main focus of the research analysis lies on the elements of Positive Psychology, especially on the construct of well-being, as well as on Positive Education. The “well-being theory” (PERMA model) and the concept of Positive Education are subsequently broken down in terms of their content. The Australian educational programmes presented are, on the one hand, the holistic educational approach of Geelong Grammar School in Corio, Vic., and on the other hand the programmes “BounceBack!” and “The Penn Resilience Program” (PRP). All three approaches are presented and evaluated with regard to their structure and their effects.
