In the present work, spray granulation in the circulating fluidized bed was investigated using a model system consisting of sucrose particles as bed material, the injection of an aqueous sucrose solution containing 60 wt.-% sucrose, and air as the drying medium.
Based on the experimental results, a population balance model was derived which takes into account local attrition/breakage and granulation/agglomeration effects in the different characteristic zones of the granulator in order to describe the essential influencing parameters.
In the present work spray granulation in the circulating fluidized bed was examined. Therefore a model system consisting of sucrose particles as bed material, an aqueous sucrose solution with 60 wt.-% sucrose as sprayed liquid and air as drying gas was used.
Based on the experimental results a population balance model, considering local breakage / attrition and agglomeration / granulation effects in different characteristic zones of the granulator which is capable to describe the main influencing parameters was derived.
