The European North Sea Energy Alliance (‘ENSEA’) is a project funded by the European Commission and carried out between 1 October 2012 and 31 December 2015 within the FP7 programme “Capacities – Regions of Knowledge”. Its main objective is the targeted development of international cooperation between academia, industry and public administration in regional energy sectors (triple helix approach) and the development of knowledge on energy system integration within international regions. The partners of the ENSEA consortium are the northern Netherlands, north-west Germany, south-west Norway and Scotland. The pooling and analysis of the partner regions’ innovation capacities, the consolidation of existing energy know-how, the coordination of regional, national and European research programmes as well as the sustained continuation of the cooperation are the most important results of the activities presented in this series. In addition, a catalogue of measures for policy development is presented, which was elaborated within the framework of the ENSEA final conference in Edinburgh. ENSEA thus makes a significant contribution to the integration of North Sea renewable energies into the existing onshore energy system.
