This study examines a combined-cycle gas and steam turbine power plant in conjunction with a CO2 capture unit operating according to the post-combustion capture process using the solvent monoethanolamine. The objective is to optimise the net efficiency of the overall process. To this end, various modifications of the individual sub-processes are investigated. The modifications examined include, among others, flue gas recirculation, process changes to the amine scrubbing unit, and integration measures for the energetic incorporation of the amine scrubbing unit into the power plant process. The essential differences compared with CO2 capture at coal-fired steam power plants are highlighted. The work concludes with an optimised overall process in which the most effective modifications are combined in order to increase the efficiency of the overall process as far as possible.
