In production systems with scarce resources, non-linear dependencies exist between the load in the production system and the output quantities. So-called clearing functions can be used to describe and quantify these non-linear dependencies. This research work presents a methodology for the simulation-based determination of product-specific clearing functions in a job shop production with closed production. These clearing functions are integrated into a model for order release in order to obtain an estimate of the lead times as a function of utilisation. This allows the planning results to be improved significantly. Such product-specific clearing functions also make it possible to derive the capacities that are actually and effectively usable in the production system. This improved assessment of capacities is used in further investigations within the scope of lot-sizing planning, which leads to a considerable improvement of the planning results.
