Being well rested is quality of life

Fatigue is a widespread complaint in our society. In many patients it is an expression of sleep apnoea syndrome, in which relaxation of the pharyngeal muscles during sleep leads to closure of the upper airways at short intervals and thus to cessation of breathing. These respiratory arrests significantly disturb sleep without those affected noticing it; patients with sleep apnoea are often overtired and snore.

The book provides information on causes, frequency, possible secondary damage and treatment options. A separate chapter is also devoted to “normal” snoring, which is by no means as dangerous as sleep apnoea, but which puts domestic harmony in some bedrooms to a severe test.
