The internet has significantly changed tourism distribution systems. The traditional travel agency is particularly affected, as it is losing importance due to an increasing variety of distribution channels.

Florian Forster identifies the opportunities for brick-and-mortar travel agencies in the age of the internet and provides recommendations for decision-makers. At the centre of his research is the question of the criteria according to which consumers prefer the travel agency or the internet as a distribution channel for tourism services.

Within the framework of a confirmatory research design, relevant approaches from various fields of behavioural research and psychology are brought together into an overall concept of factors influencing the choice of travel distribution medium and are tested in an empirical analysis.

The resulting findings and recommendations are relevant not only to representatives of academia but above all to practitioners in the tourism industry, and in particular to brick-and-mortar travel agencies.
