In this work, the influence of ultra-wideband (UWB) signals with high amplitudes on complex electronic systems was investigated. Furthermore, a method was developed to ensure the immunity of electronic systems with respect to coupled-in UWB interference.
In order to classify the ultra-wideband signals examined here and to distinguish them from signal forms previously studied in the literature, a general definition of UWB signals in the frequency and time domain is presented at the beginning of the work. For this work, double-exponential interference pulses with rise times in the 100 ps range and pulse widths of a few nanoseconds are therefore relevant as field-conducted interference. The amplitudes of these disturbances can amount to up to several hundred kV/m. Building on this, a detailed analysis of the interference potential of field-conducted ultra-wideband signals on electronic systems was carried out. It could be shown that electronic systems can be affected by coupled-in UWB interference at all system levels. These effects range from simple functional disturbances and functional corruption through to system failures and system destruction.
