This work is concerned with the synthesis and structural elucidation of sulfur- and phosphorus-bridged complexes of the elements erbium, gadolinium and samarium. In addition to X-ray structure analysis, spectroscopic methods were also employed to characterise the newly synthesised compounds. The use of cyclopentadienyl ligands to saturate the metal atoms has proven to be a successful method for the preparation of polynuclear rare-earth metal complexes.

Thus, in the first part of the work, tri- to tetranuclear complexes were prepared and characterised through the use of phosphinidene and thiolato ligands. In the second part of the work, oxygen-bridged complexes were synthesised by targeted hydrolysis, the main focus being on the preparation of the intermediate stages on the way to the oxide (Ln2O3).

In the last part of the work, with a view to introducing iron or copper into the existing synthetic scheme, the reaction behaviour of the transition metal ions towards phosphinidene and thiolato ligands was investigated.
